As US born Kenyan teen Imari Karanja is gracing the international modelling circuit at just 15 years old.
Imari who was born in Lowell, Massachusetts in 2001 first got interested in modelling at the urging of her mum Vivian Kiarie.
Her mum nudged her mostly because of her build and height which seemed to fit the modelling world.
According to her father, Erastus Karanja, Imari got signed by Metropolitan Modelling Agency in Paris in 2016 and then got her first introduction into high fashion during the New York Fall Fashion week 2017.
“It’s still hasn’t sunk in yet for me with her reception in the fashion industry, especially the quality of shows she got accepted to”, Karanja told Jambonewspot.com. “it’s very hard to do Prada, Marc Jacobs and Dior as your first shows.”
Her first show which was in New York during the fashion week was with Marc Jacobs. She later followed up with another show by Prada in Milan.
She concluded her first fashion week in Paris by walking for Christian Dior, Loewe, Giambattista valli and Hermes.
This being her first show, coupled with school and being only 15, her parents felt she needed to ease into the industry before becoming a full-time model.
FULL TIME MODELING
Her first show as a full time model will be at the New York Spring Fashion Week 2018 will be her first show as a full-time model.
Her parents alternate in accompanying her to her modelling shows. One of the conditions that her parents had for any agency was that Imari would not chaperoned and would always have one of the parents with her.
Until she is 18, the agencies would provide a plane ticket, hotel accommodation and a backstage pass for one parent.
The parents are keen not to have her in model housing which most agencies offered.
