MediaMax’s K24 is on the defense after a tweet suggesting that the Supreme Court will uphold president-elect Uhuru Kenyatta’s win was sent from their twitter account on Friday.
The tweet which was sent at around 11.30 am had Raila Odinga’s supporters crying foul. The broadcasted tweet contained the following message: “Supreme Court ends last hearing on a Good Friday. FINALLY tomorrow in their judgement, they will uphold the elections-April 9th is holiday.”
Immediately after the tweet went out, twitter lit up as it went viral.
K24 responded and filed a report with the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) regarding the “malicious” tweet. K24 said in the letter that the update was made by a malicious person who had access to K24 Twitter account password.
The station said that immediately they realized that the tweet had gone out, their digital department staff on duty pulled the tweet although it had already gone viral. The letter also states that K24’s Head of the Digital Department was instructed by the management to change the password of the account and also write to Twitter to obtain the IP address of the individual who sent out the tweet.
The station goes ahead to say that they called PS Communication Dr Bitange Ndemo and informed of the incidence and and an IT expert from the Ministry had been deployed to K24 and is investigating the matter.
K24 apologized to the people of Kenya, the Chief Justice and all affected institutions that the malicious tweet update was made on their platform. See their response here
