Mutahi Ngunyi warns Jubilee against celebrating too early as Raila withdraws from race

Political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi has warned the Jubilee Party against celebrating too early after the withdrawal of NASA leader Raila Odinga from the repeat October 26 elections.

The opposition leader announced on Tuesday that he was withdrawing from the race citing failure by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to institute reforms as the reason for withdrawal.

Mr Ngunyi took to Twitter to remind the ruling coalition that they were blindsided by the Supreme Court ruling and that Mr Odinga has a more sinister scheme.

He said that he believes Mr Odinga is waiting for November 1 to go to the Supreme Court and argue that Uhuru Kenyatta’s mandate has expired and petition that a caretaker president being installed by the Chief justice David Maraga.

Many had argued that the IEBC is within its right to declare Mr Kenyatta the winner after the NASA leader withdrew but many legal analysts say it is highly unlikely.

Raila’ on the other hand warned the IEBC against declaring Mr Kenyatta the winner saying that it would be illegal.
