Mwingi Central MP to resign for Kalonzo’s return to House

Mwingi Central MP Joe Mutambu is set to step down to pave way for former Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka to return to parliament.

Sources at the CORD legislators retreat in Naivasha indicate he will voluntarily resign hence necessitating a by-election in which Kalonzo will contest.

Earlier, Machakos Senator Johnstone Muthama had offered to resign and give up his seat for Kalonzo.

He insisted that Kalonzo had shown exemplary leadership and deserved another chance in the Senate of the National Assembly.

Once Kalonzo returns to parliament, he is set to assume the position of minority leader.

In the meantime, Kitui West MP Francis Nyenze will assume the position on an interim basis.

Bungoma Senator Moses Wetangula is set to be the Senate Minority leader with Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama taking the Chief Whip post.

However, Former PM has rejected overtures by CORD legislators who had offered to step down for him to return to the House.

Mr Odinga however decided he would fight for democracy and implementation of the Constitution from outside Parliament.

The Cord legislators retreat is at the Great Rift Valley Lodge and the group is holding strategy talks on how to approach their opposition role in parliament.
