Nairobi may soon get a new women representative in radio personality Maina Kageni as the August general elections beckon.

The radio jock has decided to throw his hat into politics and has announced that he will be vying for the position of ‘Nairobi Women Representative’.

In an Instagram announcement, Kageni said he was running for the postion as an independent candidate after consulting women in Nairobi.

His slogan for his campaign is, ‘Liberating Nairobi Women’ and his symbol is a woman’s wig.

Kageni still refers to the seat as Women Representative even though he is not one It’s officially a Woman Representative seat.

“It’s now no longer a secret. I’ll be on the ballot and my symbol is a smart weave (made of 100% human hair). Nairobi women deserve to have the very best! Come out and vote in large numbers,” wrote Maina Kageni.

The Classic 105 morning presenter also recorded a video clip of himself addressing a media briefing in which he outlined his reasons to vie for the seat.

He also wished his ‘competitors’ Rachel Shebesh (Jubilee) and Esther Passaris (ODM) all the best in their campaigns.

The constitution however seems to state that the position of a Woman Representative can only be held by a woman.

He has always been christened a ‘Woman Rep’ on his show owing to his constant support of women and feminism agenda.

He says he has always championed women’s issues and hence his decision.

Th reaction to his announcement was swift.
