The Political Parties Dispute Tribunal has nullified the nomination of Mwangi wa Iria as the Jubilee pick for the Murang’a County gubernatorial seat.

The tribunal made the ruling after Kigumo MP Jamleck Kamau who lost to Wa Iria in the primaries filed a petition challenging Wa Iria’s nomination as the Jubilee party flagbearer in the upcoming August polls.

Wa Iria won the contest by garnering 205,976 votes to Kamau’s 119,339 votes.

In the petition, Kamau cited massive irregularities saying that the process was not free and fair and therefore lacked any credibility.

He accused Wa Iria of asking his supporters to vote twice and also cited stuffed boxes with ballot papers.

The tribunal sided with Kamau noting that these instances did occur therefore making Wa Iria’s election null and void.

The county has been ordered to hold fresh elections within fourty eight hours.

Jubilee party lawyers are looking into filing an appeal.
