Uganda’s President Yoweri Museveni has said he “loves” US President Donald Trump because he is “frank” with Africans.
President Trump was recently quoted as calling African countries “shitholes” and Museveni seemed to offer him some benefit of the doubt saying “i don’t know whether he was misquoted.”
Mr Trump made the remarks while discussing immigration policy to the US when he reportedly used the word to describe people from Haiti and Africa who he wants barred from entering the US.
Best US President ever
Responding to a question by a reporter on his thoughts on Trump’s “shithole” remark; Mr Museveni gushed over the US leader.
“Americans got the best President ever-Mr. Trump,” he said to gasps in the room.
“I love Mr.Trump,” he added as the room erupted in laughter.
He said Mr Trump was always frank with Africans.
“I love Trump because he tells Africans frankly. I don’t know whether he’s misquoted or whatever. He talks to Africans frankly. In the world, you cannot survive if you’re weak……that’s why we need East African integration,” Mr Museveni said during the opening of East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) assembly in Kampala on Tuesday.
US Ambassador to Uganda
Earlier, the US Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac had denounced Mr Trump’s comments terming them as “insensitive.
“Obvious for people like me and many of my colleagues who have spent many years working in Africa, have many relationships and friendships across the continent, [the comments] are obviously quite disturbing and upsetting…” Ms Malac told Speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga.
