A man in Alabama has been charged with the murder of his 1-year-old daughter in Phenix City as her mother was in Kenya, police have said.
Sha’Quel J. Brooks, 26, was charged with the murder of Cateya Brooks and is being held at the Russell County Jail.
At the time of the crime, Cateya’s mother 24 year old Adriana Omondi originally from Kenya had traveled to her native country leaving the toddler and her twin sister Zeraya who was also suffered injuries in the care of Brooks.
Zeraya who had two ribs broken and blood clot in the brain is now in the custody of the state of Alabama.
According to the Russell County Coroner Arthur L. Sumbry, the baby girl was pronounced dead at the scene. An autopsy performed at the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences revealed the child’s death was due to blunt force.
A police spokesman said that said police were called at 4:05 a.m. Wednesday Feb. 21 to check on the death of a small child.
The family has set up a gofundme account to cater for burial expenses for Baby Cetaya.
