As Kenya carrier Kenya Airways crawls to a limp, Ethiopia Airlines is surging ahead with expansion plans. The Ethiopian carrier has enjoyed a growing customer base which enabled it to record $2.4 billion (Sh240 billion) in revenue in the 2014-2015 financial period. The profits for the carrier were at $175 million (Sh1.75 billion) while Kenya Airways recorded a loss of Sh25.7 billion ($274 million) The carrier now wants to expand further, and is looking towards Eastern Asia.

A deal struck by President Uhuru Kenyatta and his US counterpart Barack Obama in July to increase validity of visa will kick off at the end of the September. In an announcement made on Thursday, the US Embasssy in Nairobi said this increased validity will cover tourist business and student visas. “The United States and the Republic of Kenya are scheduled to jointly increase the validity of short-term business/tourist visas and student visas issued to each other’s citizens on September 22, 2015,” the announcement said. Kenyan economist wins award for unusual aid approach
Kenyan economist James Shikwati has won the Walter-Scheel-Prize 2015 for Commitment to Development Cooperation. The 45-year-old founder of the Inter Region Economic Network (IREN) won the prize for his work focusing on aid to Africa. Kenya has suspended a multi-million shilling marketing communication deal with Cable News Network (CNN) in the latest sign of an escalating row with the American news channel over a recent terrorism slur.
