Former Omo Pick a Box TV show host Regina Mutoko died as a result of a clot in the lung, a post-mortem conducted Tuesday evening revealed.

The pathologist Johansen Oduor said that Ms Mutoko suffered Deep Vein Thrombosis (DVT), where blood clotted in her lung and the right leg.

The condition, referred to as pulmonary embolism, could have been caused by the detachment of a clot that travels to the lungs.

Dr Oduor told Nation that other samples had also been collected for microscopy and toxicology tests.

“She had no physical injuries at all and though preliminary investigations have revealed the cause of death as DVT, we have forwarded the samples for further microscopy and toxicology analysis,” he said.

Ms Mutoko, who before her death was working as ICT and Multimedia Director at United States International University (USIU), was found dead in the bathroom of her house in Deluxe plaza Apartments in Kileleshwa on Saturday.

Police had collected vomit, a half eaten meat pie and some medicine from the house and launched investigations.

The pathologist however explained that the deceased could have vomited as a result of difficulty in breathing that led to inadequate supply of oxygen to the brain.

FOUND BY HOUSE HELP

“When brain gets less oxygen, a person can vomit,” said Dr Oduor, who also ruled out the possibility of food poisoning.

Ms Mutoko, the younger sister to KISS FM presenter Caroline Mutoko, was found lying dead on the floor of the bathroom by the house help, Hellen Kamojui Karani, when she reported at work.

Detectives said the deceased had her clothes on when she was found on the floor of her bathroom.

On a table next to her bed in the bedroom was a half-eaten meat pie that was also collected by the detectives. There were also some painkillers and a sachet of Eno, an antacid and reliever of bloatedness.

She became famous when she was hosting the reality TV show, ‘Omo Pick a Box’ in the 1990s. Those who knew her described her as a jovial and social person.

According to the pathologist, the possible symptoms of DVT include pain, swelling and tenderness in one of the legs, usually the calf.

Other symptoms include a heavy ache in the affected area and warm skin in the area of the clot.
