A retired NBA player Gilbert Arenas is getting heat on social media after disparaging comments on dark skinned black women and personal attacks on Kenyans Lupita Nyong’o and Ajuma Nasenyana.
Arenas made the comments in response to a message to dark skinned black girls posted by Pan Africanist Rashidi Kweli on his Instagram page.
The message from Kweli to the ladies read..“Your African features are all you need for attractiveness. Never tell yourself or let anyone tell you that in order to be attractive you must be mixed.”
The message was hailed as timely and positive by the masses on Instagram.
But Arenas thought otherwise.
He immediately responded exposing a side of him that is frankly not surprising.
He then decided to go painfully personal and attacked the two Kenyans: Lupita, a Hollywood actress and Ajuma who is a model.
Soon after his comments, he got lit up on social media and it was savage. Feeling the heat, he tried to walk it back-in a weird kind of way but still went ahead and doubled down on Lupita.
“I thought I was saying if you’re mixed you’re not considered black and beautiful and my kids are dark skinned so I perceived it how I wanted to. I was trying to defend all shades of black but that’s what the post was also doing.”
“As for Lupita she ain’t cute to me sorry … just like I’m not cute to 95% of you.”
What struck one commenter was that his daughter is a beautiful black girl herself.
Arenas has since deleted his post but the heat isn’t dying.
