NASA flagbearer chief Raila Odinga was denied a chance to speak at the Madaraka Day fete in Nyeri and social media was not happy with the snub.
Raila who had gone to attend the fete which was to be addressed by President Uhuru Kenyatta arrived at Kabiruini grounds at about 10am.
President Kenyatta arrived moments later after the opposition leader arrived.
As the fete got under way, many expected Nyeri Governor Samuel Wamathai to call on Raila before inviting Deputy President William Ruto.
However, the Governor skipped him and called on Ruto instead.
Ruto who spoke for a few minutes about the need for peaceful campaigns and then invited the President who closed the fete after his remarks.
After the event, various Kenyans on social media insisted that the DP should have allowed Raila to speak while others chose to differ.
The level of pettiness in this country, sasa why didn’t they even acknowledge Raila’s presence at the Madaraka Fete? #MadarakaDay

So some people feel Raila was dishonored for not being given a chance to speak. When did Madaraka Day become a Raila affair? #madarakaDay

Why deny Raila a chance to speak during Madaraka day celebrations in Nyeri ? It was a public function and not a party function.

We have to agree to the facts; there are Kenyans, and there are Kikuyus and maybe one day Kenyans will win the war against oppression
